What is special about Bambury & Co Chartered Accountants?

In the sense that we produce accounts and tax returns, run payrolls and carry out monthly bookkeeping, what accountants refer to collectively as "compliance work", then we're not very different to other firms of accountants in that area.

Our difference is that we've invested a lot of time and effort on the latest cloud and AI technologies so that irrespective of the number of clients we have or where they are located, not only are we always on the ball with compliance work but we can offer additional value added services to make running your business easier and more efficient. We use secure portals (not DropBox!) so that you can approve documents digitally, again saving time and making things easier for you.

Accounts & Taxation

Description

Compliance Work

This is a catch-all term to cover work we carry out for clients that is a result of the client needing to comply with legislation. Generally, it covers company accounts and corporation tax returns, personal tax returns, VAT matters and payroll.

Company Accounts and Corporation Tax Returns

Even if it is dormant, every limited company must file accounts with Companies House each year. These accounts are also used to support the company's corporation tax return, which is sent to HMRC along with the annual tax computations.

If you would like to talk to us about preparing your company accounts and corporation tax return, please call us on 01280 815461 or email us at enquiries@bambury.info.

Personal Tax Returns

You must send a personal tax return to HMRC if, in the last tax year, you were: self-employed as a 'sole trader' with gross annual earnings of more than £1,000; and a partner in a business partnership.

You will not usually need to send a return if your only income is from your wages or pension. But you may need to send one if you have any other untaxed income, such as:

  • money from renting out a property
  • tips and commission
  • income from savings, investments and dividends
  • foreign income
  • child benefit if your total income was over £50,000

If you would like talk to us about preparing your personal tax return, please call us on 01280 815461 or email us at enquiries@bambury.info.

VAT Matters

Since it was introduced in the United Kingdom on 1 April 1973, VAT has become gradually more and more complicated until today it is a complex web of legislation, case decisions, VAT orders, and tribunal decisions. We can help you with:

  • registering your business for VAT
  • preparing your monthly or quarterly VAT returns
  • general queries about VAT and how it applies to your business

If you would like talk to us about preparing your VAT return or you have a general query on VAT, please call us on 01280 815461 or email us at enquiries@bambury.info

Payroll

Operating the payroll for a business is not always easy. Not only do you have to stick to HMRC 's deadlines for filing RTI returns each month, but you also must manage statutory leave such as sick pay and SMP, changes to tax codes, and a workplace pension scheme where your staff have been auto enrolled. Our cloud based payroll bureau handles all aspects of payroll on your behalf, from calculating gross pay to emailing payslips to your staff.

If you would like to talk to us about operating your payroll and workplace pension scheme, please call us on 01280 815461 or email us at enquiries@bambury.info

Helping You Understand Your Business Better

Description

We're not merely accountants.

We're here to make a real difference to our clients. Delivering a high-quality, efficient compliance service is just part of that. Helping our clients to develop, improve and grow their business is the next natural step. Our Business Development offerings are practical and tangible services that create long term value for clients.

The Complimentary Client Review

As a valued client, you'll receive at least one Complimentary Client Review (CCR). In fact, this is an annual event for a number of our clients. The CCR is an opportunity for you to set and review your goals and gives you clarity around the actions you need to take to achieve those goals. It also stimulates strategic discussion and identifies burning issues, opportunities and challenges so that you respond effectively. And of course, it's an opportunity for our team to identify greater tax efficiencies and asset protection.

Business Planning

A great Business Planning process gets to the heart and soul of your business. Upon completion of pre-work we'll have a greater understanding of your vision and core values in order to facilitate a four hour planning session to help you create a clear one page Business Plan.

The outcome of this service is to identify and prioritise goals, both short term and long term, create strategies to achieve your goals, enable you to review actual performance against targets and establish a 90 Day Action Plan to address immediate and critical issues.

Importantly, this process eliminates a factor that is all too common in business - procrastination.

The Organisational Review

Many businesses do not have absolute clarity around their team's defined roles and responsibilities. This often results in owners wearing too many 'hats', meaning they have precious little time to spend in a strategic sense, or on high-level activities that create real value for the business.

An Organisational Review will help you to build a functional Organisation Chart, visually defining departments, functions, roles and responsibilities. We will help you to structure your business so that it is more sustainable, scalable, and, ultimately, saleable.

Financial Awareness Coaching

We'll help you to understand your business better, enabling you to better manage your cashflow. Good management decisions rely on a sound understanding of the financial implications for your business. This service involves meeting with us every two months to discuss your financial results, culminating in you learning to produce and interpret your own customised financial reports on a monthly basis.

Quarterly Coaching

As a business owner you can at times feel alone and unsupported, spending little time working on your business and trapped in the day to day technical aspects. Our Quarterly Coaching service provides you with increased accountability and support so that you achieve the results you want from your business. The outcomes include increased profitability and cash flow, customised reporting templates to measure actual performance against forecasts and access to an expert sounding board to ensure you continue working towards your goals.

Life Organiser

The Life Organiser has been designed to provide peace of mind that your affairs are in order and to minimise stress for your loved ones in the event of disability or death. It is a structured central register for you to complete, covering a raft of personal, financial, property, insurance and business details that should be documented and stored securely.

You can simply purchase the Life Organiser and complete it yourself or have a review meeting where we'll manage the process and advise you of any actions we think would benefit you and your estate. Upon completion of your Life Organiser we'll store an electronic copy for you - to be reviewed annually when we meet to discuss your financials.

Proactive Accounting Meeting

If you're keen to improve your business performance and financial results but don't feel you are being supported enough by your current accountant - give us a call. We'll arrange a complimentary Proactive Accounting Meeting to review your unique situation and discuss how we may be able to support you.

During the meeting we'll identify your burning issues, opportunities and potential tax efficiencies, and establish goals and strategies to achieve them. We'll also have a strategic discussion around the current and future direction of your entities.

Following the meeting, if required, we'll prepare a proposal for services, with all costs priced upfront, whether this be strictly for Business Development work and / or compliance.

KPI Improvement Coaching

We've developed this service to enable business owners to understand the key drivers in their business. The better you understand your business, the easier it will be to increase your profits and free up cashflow.

First, we'll help you establish what your key drivers are. These may be financial (e.g. gross profit margin), or non-financial (e.g. customer satisfaction ratings). We'll teach you how to measure each KPI and set improvement targets. Once you're confident measuring each KPI we'll provide monthly coaching to help you implement a tactical plan focusing on the business processes and behavioural changes required to ensure improvement.

Investing a little time each week and making simple changes can dramatically improve your KPIs, thus positively impacting your business performance and personal life.

Core Values Development

Core Values are the essence of a company's identity; they support the vision and shape the culture of an organisation. We've developed an effective service that allows you to create Core Values for your business - providing a great foundation and guide for the way your team interacts with clients and each other.

Attendees will complete pre-work to get thinking about their values and vision for the business so that everyone is prepared to gain maximum benefit from the 4 hour facilitated session. We'll then guide you through our structured process to create up to five Core Values with definitions which will underpin the expectations of behaviour within your organisation.

Core Values will make leading and managing a team and client expectations a lot easier. When your team live and breathe your Core Values you're more likely to achieve your business goals. As Peter Drucker once said - 'Culture eats strategy for breakfast.'

Value Based Selling

Many business owners are very good at what they do but have never had formal sales training. Can you easily articulate the value of your product or service to your customers?

Our Values Based Selling service is designed help you improve your sales processes and increase productivity, efficiency and profit. It will enable you to give price certainty, confidently handle changes in work scope and eliminate fee surprises for you and your clients.

This coaching service will build your knowledge, focusing on powerful sales techniques, writing effective proposals, and defining Terms of Trade. We'll also help you to create and implement an ongoing Sales Action Plan. Value Based Selling encourages a return that is proportionate to the value you're providing clients, freeing up time for you to concentrate on other revenue generating activities.

Succession Planning

Succession Planning helps you clarify what you want for the future (taking into account business, personal and family expectations) and define the steps required to turn that vision into a reality. At least 3 - 5 years is the ideal timeframe to make sustainable improvements; basically the more time you have for planning and implementation the better.

We'll begin the half-day Succession Planning session with a presentation providing an overview of important considerations, succession options and processes relevant to your business. We will then work with you to define your succession timeline and identify your ideal succession scenario, opportunities to improve your business value and vulnerabilities you need to manage, documenting them in a robust Succession Plan.

We'll then set 12 month goals and quarterly goals and actions to achieve these. As a result, you'll have a roadmap to guide decision making and ensure your business is in the best position to achieve maximum return on your hard work and investment.

Cashflow Management

Cashflow planning is best practice in any business and critical to survival and growth. Our Cashflow Management service is designed to help you improve your Cash Conversion Cycle and maximise your cashflow. It will allow you to predict large cash outflows and respond to changes in your business.

Managing cashflow is all about your business processes. After preparing a Cashflow Forecast we'll conduct a thorough review of your processes and identify any potential causes of poor cashflow so that we can treat the underlying issues.

We'll meet with you on a quarterly basis to monitor, analyse and adjust your key cashflow drivers. Acting as your accountability coach, we'll help you set annual goals and devise a 90 Day Action Plan to ensure you implement improvement strategies for maximum results.

7 Ways to Grow Your Business seminar

Wills & Probate

Description

Will Writing

Are you guilty of intestacy? Every day 2,000 people die in this country and most of them leave their families with all the problems of intestacy - this means dying without having a legally valid Will.

Most people assume that all their possessions will automatically pass on to their husband or wife or civil partner or other members of the family. Unfortunately, many families often face immediate financial hardship and sometimes they even have to sell the family home - simply because no Will has been written.

The Rules of Intestacy mean that the State writes a Will for you and your possessions are distributed according to these rules. How many people would want their estate to be divided in a way that gives them no choice in the matter? Would you want your partner or family to face unnecessary extra difficulties at a time of great distress?

Without a Will you miss all the chances of passing on particular gifts to your friends or favourite charities. If you have a young family wouldn't you like to have a say in who may have to look after them after you are gone?

Want to find out where you would be without a Will? Click here to find out.

Your Will - an important tool in business succession planning

If you are in business - say the owner or part-owner of the shares in a private limited company - have you given thought to what happens to those shares after you die?

Assuming you have a Will, have you made proper provision so that your surviving spouse or civil partner (if he or she is not involved in the business) has cash instead of what to them are useless bits of paper, and the shares are made available to the remaining shareholders?

Time to change a Will?

You can easily add simple requests to your Will. If you have recently married or divorced, or are sharing property with a new partner, then it's essential that you write a new Will.

Everyone's circumstances change as time goes on and we recommend reviewing your Will at least every five years and more frequently if there is a major change in your situation.

Lasting Power of Attorney

If you lose mental capacity without an LPA (Lasting Power of Attorney) in place, it will be necessary for your family to apply to the Court of Protection to have a deputy appointed to deal with everyday financial matters. This is a slow and very expensive process, costing thousands of pounds. If you already have an LPA in place, this will not be necessary. Don't worry - we are here to help and can guide you through the LPA process.

What is a Lasting Power of Attorney?

  • If you are unable to manage your own affairs, an LPA appoints someone of your choice to do it for you. There are two types of LPA:
  • A Property and Financial Affairs LPA allows your chosen person to handle your bank accounts, investments, bills and property.
  • A Health and Welfare LPA covers decisions about your health and care.

Why should you have one?

  • Health conditions such as dementia, Parkinson's disease or a stroke can cause making decisions to become virtually impossible.
  • If you lose mental capacity without an LPA, it can cost your family time and thousands of pounds to be given permission to handle your affairs.
  • Without an LPA, any joint bank accounts you hold with your partner could become severely restricted.
  • This can be devastating, especially if the joint owner has their income or pension paid into this account, or they use it to pay critical bills such as a mortgage or utility costs.

Next Step:

Thousands of people are worried because they have not written a Will or have an LPA in place. If you are one of them, it's never been simpler to put your mind at rest.

We appreciate that writing a Will or preparing an LPA is something very personal and feel that whenever possible taking your instructions should be done on a face-to-face basis. We understand that often people cannot get away from work to see us and so we will arrange to meet you either over Zoom at a time that suits you or we will visit you at home if you live within reasonable driving distance of Buckingham.

Please contact us if you wish to make an appointment to give us instructions about your Will or LPA, or have any questions about our Will or LPA writing service.

Company House Matters

Description

Companies House is a government body that stores information on all the limited companies and limited liability partnerships (LLPs) registered in the UK.

Limited companies and LLPs have to file documents with Companies House such as:

  • Accounts in a set format ('statutory accounts')
  • Annual Confirmation Statement, showing who the directors/members of the organisation are, who owns the organisation and where it is registered
  • Change of address notifications for directors, members and the organisation itself.
  • These documents are kept by Companies House and put on the public record, so that they are visible to anyone who wishes to look them up online.

Not only can we create and file all these documents for you, but we can also:

  • Prepare board minutes to record decisions about filing and other matters
  • Prepare and issue share certificates
