Articled to Hodgson, Harris & Co in Hull (now part of PriceWaterhouseCoopers), Patrick Cracroft-Brennan FCA qualified as a chartered accountant in 1974. He joined his late father-in-law in his practice in Bedale, North Yorkshire, but later moved to York, to Leeds and in 1981 to London. He has worked for a number of companies ranging from an international construction company to a City venture capital company. In 1989 he founded Bambury & Co.

Business Start Ups

To start up in business on your own account or with partners is a big decision and in many ways is not for the feint hearted! An accountant who is familiar with business start-ups can make all the difference at a time when the budding entrepreneur needs all the help and guidance he or she can find. • advising on the best format for the new business - sole trader, partnership or limited company - by explaining clearly the advantages and disadvantages of each format

• finance manager in both small and medium sized housing associations
• acting financial controller for the housing department of a major inner London borough
• assisted housing associations in preparing for audit and the preparation of their statutory acccounts
• assisted housing associations in preparing their FV3 and FV5 returns for the Housing Corporation
• advised on the introduction and implementation of resource accounting
• acted as part of a team advising on an ALMO bid
